Local author, Gordon Pearson, has recently released a book entitled "The Revd Richard Wake ( 1831 — 1915) — Somborne's Pioneering American Colonist".
This newly published book traces the life of a Methodist Minister who was born in Kings Somborne in 1831. After emigrating to America in 1854, he returned to the UK in 1866 and persuaded 115 people to accompany him back to a newly founded colony in Nebraska. He went on to found the city of Wakefield in Kansas which is celebrating its 150th Anniversary this year.
